The work that follows the color of an ever-changing light begins with eye contact with the small natural objects and nearby items. The process of tuning colors on the canvas is an act of accepting that color into my bodily senses as well as a special communication with the object.

The work of tuning color is always done by exposing the characteristics of the object which provided the color. In the process, it becomes more than just a color field(色面) through the transformation of the object's form, or through the formative functional characteristics of the object, as well as conceptual ideas and texts.

'Nature art 自然美術' is an act to find a state where nature and my art will coexist. Nature art exists without occupying an area in nature, and as the nature of Nature art is preserved by the vivid presence of nature, it deviates from the general characteristics of art. Nature art maintains its identity as such if the nature(自然性) experienced at the working location still operates in the documenting photographs as well as the viewer’s mind. However Nature art enters the context of contemporary art through the medium of photography,

Through this exhibition I wanted to show how Nature art and my painting cooperate together in a space. I also experimented the possibility of how the color from an object can reunite with itself through the medium of photography. i expect that the stories of colors and images derived from the real object coexist with the installation work in a specific space.

The installation 「collecting and connecting」 exhibited at ‘Fureal no Sato’ in Tsukuba in 2015 was consisted of staircase-shaped structures colored with seven colors found in the forest between the branches. 「Collecting and connecting」, which applied the idea of indoor work transferring color, is installed together in this solo exhibition

In order to present this solo exhibition 「Symbiosis-The Space of Seven Colors 共生-七色空間」, I selected seven natural objects, and moved their colors on canvases and completed a series of photographs 「The Moving Color」in which the real objects were placed on colored canvases. The seven canvas work 「The Body of Rectangle Colors 四角色體」, which originated from these same objects, shows a square shape that appeared in the process of layering up dozens of colors. In this work, a barely visible rectangular shape can be re-assembled in the imagination of the viewers and is installed together along with the work titled 「Collecting & Connecting」.

The video work "Palm Leaves" was created in Taipei in 2014. I collected leaves around the village and put them between the pages of a book for about a week and took them in my hand. This action draws an analogy between the future of nature and those who trying to know their fate by looking at their palms; palm-readers. Since the future of nature is precisely the future of mankind, this project imbibes a special significance.

My work to follow nature always returns to the starting point. It is because I can not match myself with the spirit of nature without restoring the naturality within me. 2017.9 Wongil Jeon
