The Space 16 - The word that they wanted to tell but could not, 
YeonChun Station, Korea, 2008

 

The Space 16 - 못다한 말
광목에 붉은 실로 바느질
cotton cloth, red thread, variable installation, 2008

 
 

 

In summer, 2008, at Yeon-chun Station,
I asked the audience to write 
'the word that they wanted to tell but could not and kept secret' 
on the long cotton cloth, 160Cm in length.
Then, I have hung the cloth in the air as an open air installation.
After the installation, I gathered the weatherworn cloths 
and sew over the words, wich are written with pencils,
with read threads. 
I hung those peoples's minds from the ceiling of gallery. 
It was the work of lightening oneself 
by bringing out the words one kept secret and thus, made the person heavy.
However, this work is made so that the audience  could read 
one phrase of the words from one side of the cloth 
and another phrase from the other side. 
After all, only the fragments of these peoples' stories are read by the audience.
With one piece of words from other peoples' minds, 
I am bringing out the story in my mind.
 
2008 여름 연천역에서 관객에게, 
'하고 싶었으나 하지 못한 마음에 묻어둔 말'을 
160Cm 긴 광목에 적게 하여 공중에 매다는 야외 설치작업 후,
비바람에 낡아버린 이 천에 놓인 연필선 위로 
붉은 실로 재봉질하여 이 마음들을 천정에 달았다.
나를 무겁게 하는, 묻어둔 말을 꺼내, 나를 가볍게 하는 일,
하지만 이 글들은 한 단락은 앞면으로 읽을 수 있고,
한 단락은 뒷면으로 읽을 수 있어,
결국 다른 사람의 조각난 이야기만 관객에게 읽혀진다.
다른 이의 마음의 말 한 조각으로 나의 말을 꺼내본다.
