Roger Tibon
Roger Tibon is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Baguio City, Philippines. He has participated in numerous local and international painting exhibitions and nature art symposium like the USA, Australia, Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, and several times in Korea and Taipei. He has garnered numerous art awards in painting competitions and art residency programs. Roger is a member of the Art Association of the Philippines and the Baguio Writers Group in his country. Aside from doing artworks, he also actively conducts children’s and adults art workshops and occasionally gives art talks and seminars in schools and universities.
As a nature artist, he mostly likes to create his art with, but not limited to, natural materials to realize challenges of thematic site-specific works. His process is always an interplay between conscious thinking and unconscious recurrent of forms like cocoons, boats, domes etc. to tackle a given project. In 2006 Geumgang Nature Art Biennale, he covered the trunks of 8 tall pine trees situated in the forest with 5-meter high strips of bamboos vertically resembling cocoons. He called the work “Shelters.” In 2010 GNAB, he made a 7 meter long bamboo “Peace Boat” which now hangs under the Gongju bridge in Korea.
