2001, Herb Parker, Takihata Dialogue, 13'x25'x25', Kotaki Falls, near Kawachinagano, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
I was one of three artists creating work for this the fifth and final year of Takihata Art Walking.
This work is based on my research of the earliest structures in Japan.
It consists of two “pit houses,” with a “tori” as a connection.
It sits at the foot of the largest waterfall in the region.
There are stone seats inside each house. It is a meeting of history, community and dialogue.
It was originally planned to last 3 months. The village council liked it and asked to keep it up.
I do not think it is still in existence but it would have lasted for a few years.
