Feng Feng

Feng Feng is a professor of the Contemporary Arts Department at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and he now works and lives in Guangzhou, China.

As one of the best-known contemporary artists in South China, Feng Feng has developed multiple artistic identities in painting, sculpture, installation, architecture, fashion design and more. Feng works with various subject matters, yet the focus on suspecting or deconstructing common knowledge has become a recurring theme. Feng’s conceptual practice guides the viewers to experience a momentary enlightenment that goes beyond materials and forms. Feng’s conceptual crossover constantly searches for and delivers new artistic approaches, and his creative attempts further evolve to generate new artistic identities with cross-disciplinary complexities.

Based on his studies in semiotics and metaphysics, Feng Feng questions and deconstructs the certainty and clarity of symbols in popular knowledge. He rewrites or reverses popular notions in contemporary cultures against the rigid common sense rooted in people’s fixed mindsets. Feng is dedicated to bring his arts to greater public space and everyday scenarios, and further develops his art practice with persistent creative strength.
