My ecology based art is inspired by my work as a naturalist and conservationist. And my conservation work is informed by my installation art that engages the natural landscape. All my work focuses on the small changes caused by stress that occur in habitat niches of wild places. My days are spent in these wild landscapes near the verges of human communities. My father was a pharmacologist who worked on Yellow Fever research in the Amazon River Basin of Brazil. As a young woman I visited such wild places and was inspired by my dad’s work before I ever went to college. I earned my M.F.A. in Combined Media from Hunter College, C.U.N.Y. After graduating I began exhibiting my work in small museums, universities and galleries in the United States and Europe. My work has been shown very recently at Hofstra University Museum, Heckscher Museum and Everhart Museum. My photos have been the cover of environmental and arts journals such as Orion magazine, Annals of Earth and Fourth River. My work has been featured in The New York Times, Newsday, Sculpture, New York Magazine, Volume Magazine, Audubon and Arts magazine. It is my hope and my mission that through my work and the talks I give at museums that I can help elicit a response in viewers to look at the small events in our natural world and gain respect for the integrity, intelligence and struggle to survive these landscapes project. I want to encourage people to protect these habitats from destruction and contamination.
