Aesthete Ghana Nature Art
Aesthete (essTHEET) Introduction
Aesthete is an English (British) word for someone with a deep sensitivity to the beauty of art and nature. We reckon man as part of the natural environment. However, the environment is being destroyed by man. Because of that man has lost his connection with the natural environment. We believe that art can restore the lost relations between man and the natural environment.
Aesthete Ghana is a nonprofit organization based in Takoradi the Western Region of Ghana with the mission in the furtherance of the task of environmental education and protection through art. The organization also engages in nature art workshops, symposium and educational programmes with children and other groups who might be interested.
We hope to expand our network of building harmony between man and natural environment in Africa and the rest of the world for sustainable universal ecological development through art. Through our activities we support the continued professional growth of artists, ecological organizations and local human capital development; thus enhancing the social, cultural and economic vitality of man and the natural world.

Awaiting Project Series
Project Sites: Central Region (Beaches in Cape Coast, Elmina and Komenda), Western Region (Beaches in Essipong, Funko, Adwoa and Aboadzi)
This project is in three parts: Nature Art with Plastic Waste from Beaches, Nature Art Performances with Plastic Waste, Interaction and Sharing with Local Communities on the Effects and Dangers of Plastic Waste. We chose to use the beach as our canvas (site) because most whole plastics and fragments we use find themselves in the ocean. Participants will include 6-10 practicing artists and several interested members from the selected local communities. Resultant works will be recorded through video and photographs, books and on the internet.
We anticipate having diverse artistic ideas plastic deposits from the selected beaches since every region has different drift deposits and natural environment. The project will last for 3 months. We will hold workshops twice every mouth (from June-August 2017) in the selected beaches and engage our art with the local communities through our individual approaches to nature.
Generally, we are not interested in creating monumental works for sale or to gain exposure in the art world, but rather we would like to inspire people and leave traces of dialogue with nature through performances and the creation of ephemeral works. We belief that nature art interventions could help curb the menace of waste and pollution which confronts our fishing communities today. Artists may collaborate with people form the local communities. Conversations and feedback from the projects may also be recorded to inform future projects.
