Presentation: 
Commissioned for the Phoenix Flower Carnival, Cloud for Resting Feet intimately connects time, venue and the human body. The Carnival itself is a comprehensive urban art festival that emphasizes citizen participation and experience through two weeks of experimental buildings, art installations, music performances, environmental drama, outdoor yoga, creative markets, and nature classes. The program unfolds on the lawn of Overseas Chinese Town Community in downtown Shenzhen, exploring the connections between human beings and nature, their community, and urban art.
Cloud produces a space for movement, mingling, and performance, without physically occupying the venue’s main lawn. A fine mist plays with material “presence” and “absence;” visitors can feel the existence of the work, even as they move through it. What’s more, the density, humidity, direction, strength, and speed of Cloud changes over time, inviting visitors to feel and observe the essential element of "air" through fog. How does air surround us? The spirit of the work is experienced in the shifting flows of air, weather, light, and human movement. Cloud provides a cool space within the midsummer carnival, drawing attention away from the control inherent to landscaped spaces in order make tangible the spontaneous nature of air.
