I was privileged to be one of the artists for the 2019 Tankwa Artscape Residency, held Friday 24 May to Monday 3 June 2019. The residency, my creative process, the sites, the landscape, the sunsets, sunrises, and the interactions with my fellow artists all-together create one of the most sacred experiences of my life up to now.
observing...
the textures of the rocks
the colours of the land
the light and shadows of the plants, rock faces
and shifting sun
observing my thoughts
observing the terrain under the bicycle's wheels
observing the traces of life
tasting, feeling, licking, hearing, seeing, smelling
experiencing the rocks on my skin, my tongue
the heat on my body
the sweat under my breasts
the gravel under my soles
the rocks against my back as I lie upon the earth
observing the sensations in my body/
the thoughts in my head
the beating of my heart
the upwelling of emotions
and then...
observing the stillness
the peace
the nothingness filled with everything.
